Malcolm Todd, the 22-year-old indie-pop artist, has been making waves in the music scene with his heart-on-his-sleeve songwriting and catchy melodies. His wholesome persona has endeared him to his fans, who have been along for the ride since he dropped his first EP, Demos Before Prom, in 2022. Recently, Todd was tapped by Gap to star in its Fall 2026 "Denim on Your Own" campaign, alongside actress Inde Navarrette.

The campaign, directed by Tanu Muiño with creative direction from Gap's Head of Creative, Calvin Leung, features Todd's original rendition of Robyn's iconic hit "Dancing on My Own". The song had a significant moment in HBO's Girls, and Todd's connection to it is evident in his energetic performance.

In an interview with Dazed Digital, Todd discussed the creative process behind the campaign, saying that he was given the freedom to do whatever he felt on the song. He brought in his team of musicians, and they had a natural process, having fun and getting excited.

Todd also talked about the energy on set, describing it as "very fun" and "like summer camp". He mentioned that the set was the biggest he had ever been on, but the high energy of everyone involved made it feel like a relaxed atmosphere.

The campaign theme emphasizes personal style, and Todd shared his thoughts on how his style has changed over the years. He mentioned that high school was a big time period in figuring out his style, and he went through a rollercoaster of emotions, trying out different looks. He eventually landed on a more casual and comfortable feel, which he attributes to his California upbringing.

Todd's favorite piece from the new Gap collection is the "90s loose jeans", which he wore in the campaign video. He has been styling them with t-shirts, jeans, and flip-flops, a classic California look.

When asked to describe his personal style in three words, Todd chose "authentic, comfortable, and sometimes random". He also shared his go-to work uniform, which can range from shorts and socks to a suit, depending on how he feels.

As for a style mantra to live by, Todd advised people to "feel comfortable and don't care what other people think". If he were trapped in an elevator with his celebrity crush, Jessica Alba, he would be wearing his Gap jeans, a funny shirt, and flip-flops.
